My dear St Matthew Family,

It is with a very heavy heart that I announce to all of you that Archbishop Wenski has asked me to go to another parish effective June 6. He has asked me to go to Nativity Church in Hollywood. As much of a shock and a surprise this may be to all of you, it was equally a shock and a surprise to me as I was not expecting this change now.

Prayer for the Fallen.

As our nation pauses today to remember those in the military who have given their lives for freedoms we enjoy, we pray you would have us all look to you for strength, comfort and guidance. Be with all who serve in our Armed Forces. Bless them and their families. Grant your loving protection. Let peace prevail among all the nations, O God.

Especially let your mercy rest upon our land, even as we acknowledge with thanksgiving your past goodness on this country. If it is your will, preserve the lives of the men and women in uniform as they defend our citizenry. Most of all, we pray that you would turn the hearts of all military and civilian to your holy Word where we find the true peace for our sinful souls that surpasses all understanding. Keep us repentant of sin. Move us to know, take hold and treasure your saving grace. In this peace and hope for eternity, we pray. Amen.

St. Justin, Martyr; c. AD 100 – c. AD 165) was an early Christian apologist and philosopher. An apologist is one who defended in writing the Christian religion against the attacks and misunderstandings of the pagans. As a patron of philosophers, Justin may inspire us to use our natural powers, especially our power to know and understand, in the service of Christ and to build up the Christian life within us.

Thus we will be able to say with the learned saints of the Church: I believe in order to understand and I understand in order to believe.

This weekend’s Special Collection The CATHOLIC COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN Communication Engages to Build Community.

Your support of the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) helps bring the richness of the Church’s social teachings to life through engaging media. In his encyclical Centesimus Annus, Pope St. John Paul II wrote, “God has imprinted his own image and likeness on man, conferring upon him an incomparable dignity” (no. 11).

It is with this view of human dignity that Centisimus Annus Pro Pontifice, a lay-led organization founded by John Paul II and based at the Vatican, works to promote Catholic social teaching (CST).

CAPP-USA, the U.S. arm of Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice, does this through digital communications such as its website and social media channels. These digital resources include informative video presentations with engaging graphics to illustrate the principles of human dignity, solidarity, and subsidiarity that work at the heart of the Church’s teachings. With support from the CCC, CAPP-USA produced ten videos and six infographics explaining core concepts of CST and how they apply to current social issues. CAPP-USA engaged thousands of Americans on social media and continued to build its website as a platform for instructing and engaging visitors through a first-of-its-kind CST content library. Your contributions to the Catholic Communication Campaign make possible initiatives that engage audiences with appealing and compelling content that brings the richness of Catholic teaching to life.

A Memo from the Outreach Food Pantry

At the last Outreach Food Pantry, we were able to give food to 65 families. This ministry continues to receive support from you the parishioners as well as several commercial donors. As we have expressed so many times in the past, we are constantly surprised and blessed by the generosity of our parishioners. We pray that you continue to find the means to help us.

Anyone that wishes to donate food items please leave them in the wooden box located, for that purpose, on the east wall of the church. We ask that you please try to bring: pasta, pasta sauce, canned or dry beans (black or red), tuna fish, boxes of cereal, oatmeal, crackers, canned fruit, and cookies or snacks for the kids.

May God bless all of you and your families in this coming season of Easter.

Send your Holy Spirit to help others to respond generously and courageously to your call. May our community of faith support vocations of sacrificial love in our youth and young adults. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
